In April and October of 2006, Apple, Inc. modified the MacBook Pro. Revisions included the Core 2 Duo and greater storage capacity. Intel's inability to pass certain cpu speed barriers has led to the progression of multi-core technology. In turn, programs and computer manufactures alike are modifying and adapting to the changing core development. Intel is currently finishing work with the latest processor, the Core 2 Quad. The quad-core will greatly improve multi-tasking abilities, and with highly developed programs like Final Cut and Photoshop, we should see an enhanced performance boost. The MBP revisions took 6 months to complete, between April and October 2006. Following this basic outline for estimates, it can be guestimated that another revision will take place between March and May 2007, alongside Mac OS X Leopard's long awaited release. The Core 2 Quad update will most likely be accompanied by the MBP revision with greater hard drive space, more memory, and an update to the latest wireless 802.11n technology.

Well hopefully it would be a bit sooner than normal. I believe they've got quite a few upset people on their hands who bought Macbook Pro's and have had trouble with their displays :( . We'll have to just wait and see tho....

Core 2 Quads will not come to MB or MBPs anytime soon. The main reason is the heat. Those are meant for desktops, not for laptops :)

The Core 2 Quad has already been released with the Q6600. However, as mentioned before it is a desktop only chip. There are no plans to release any mobile quad core chips for the next year. The next refresh are 800MHz FSB Meroms using the Santa Rosa platform due in Q2. The next refresh after that is 45nm Penryn chips which will continue to be dual core. That is probably going to be a Q4 launch.
