So, for all you Speck CandyShell fans out there, they have a new case that just came out--a CandyShell case that is a hardshell folio--the CandyShell Wrap! Speck very kindly sent me out one to review, and I'm quite impressed!

Thinness: The first thing I noticed when I took it out of the box was how thin it was. Speck designed the CandyShell Wrap such that the folio cover, when closed, fits entirely within the rim of the main part of the case, so it doesn't add any thickness. As far as I could tell, it seems to be the same thickness as the CandyShell Grip, and probably the same as the regular CandyShell. The glossy polycarbonate shell allows it to slide easily in and out of pockets and purses.

Hard Folio Cover that Latches: The second really great thing about this case is that the folio cover is hard polycarbonate, lined with rubber in the classic Speck manner. This is the first folio case I've seen with a truly hard cover, and it should provide lots of protection to the iPhone screen. Not only is the folio cover hard and protective, it also latches extremely securely, so you can toss it in a backpack or purse without fear of it coming open unexpectedly. In my opinion, the CandyShell Wrap is the perfect back to school case!

Camera Access: The third really nice thing about this case is that when the cover folds around to the back, it is designed such that the camera is not covered. Being able to take pictures with the cover folded back is very convenient. The folded back cover does cause issues for flash photography if it isn't positioned correctly, but for basic non-flash pictures, it is fine.

Here are some pics, and my YouTube review:

That looks really sharp! I hope they make this in the grip style as well.

I agree! That would be perfect! This is less slippery than the regular CandyShell, however...

After watching your review, I may have to pop on my Grip for a few days. :)

Excellent review!

Case look nice but that cat on your lock screen is SO CUTE!!
Thanks! That's one of my two cats. He's a Siamese mix, and he thinks he's very cute as well :)
Hey, just noticed your cat avatar. Your kitty, I presume?

Speck also just introduced a new scratch resistant "luxury" inked set of cases. Have to run to best buy later so I am going to take a look and see. The pictures are interesting

I'm currently looking for an iPhone 6 case, so really appreciate all your great reviews. I saw you weren't able to get your screen protector and back face protector to fit with this case, but do you think just a very thin screen protector, like the .2mm Cinder would fit, or a non-glass one (which i guess are thinner?), or is the cover just too tight a fit? I'm such a klutz, if I drop the phone it's bound to be when I'm using it (uncovered), and screen first onto a small rock :)

I've wondered whether the Cinder screen protector would fit with the CandyShell Wrap. I believe I had the iLoome ScreenMate 2nd Gen screen protector on at the time, which is .33 mm thick, and also a plastic back protector. That combination most definitely did not fit. Perhaps a thinner screen protector, alone, would be fine. Cinder actually has a new screen protector--the Phantom--which is not edge to edge, and is .15 mm Gorilla Glass, and they are supposed to be sending it out to me to review soon. I'll have to see if it fits with the CandyShell Wrap.

If you are worried about damage to your screen in the event of a tumble, do keep in mind, however, that the design of the CandyShell Wrap is such that it swings closed (not latched, but in a closed direction) when you are no longer actively holding the cover open, so it seems more likely than not to me that it would land in a closed position.

Thanks for watching my reviews!

Thanks for the reply. I look forward to your Phantom testing.

I have a few folio/wallet case questions. I know you probably get a ton of inquiries about cases, so if you don't have time to respond, I quite understand, but thought I might as well ask.

Which of the Folio/Wallet type cases that you've reviewed did you like best? Do you like this style of case in general, or do the covers become annoying when using the phone?

I'm looking at four folio/wallet cases.

Urban Armor Folio: Great protection reputation and grippier looking than the non folio version. My main concern with this case is that it looks pretty bulky (thick) in the pictures/videos?

Tech 21 Classic Shell Wallet: No drop protection spec but supposedly does pretty well. Looks like the cover blocks the camera if held open against the back of the case, which might make photography a little awkward?

Speck CandyShell Wrap: Clever cover design. Seen comments that Classic CandyShell cases scratch very easily and are a bit slick to hold? I find the naked iPhone a bit like holding a wet bar of soap, so I'd like a case that improves on that :). Wish they'd do a Grip Wrap.

Spigen Case Wallet: Bit of a long shot probably, as I'm not sure it offers much protection. Somewhat illogically, because this means it definitely doesn't protect the screen if you drop the case while using it, what I like on this case is that the cover is held open magnetically. Plus it looks great (at least in pictures/videos).

Urban Armor Gear Folio: I haven't reviewed it, but I heard some negative comments about the durability of the material when it first came out. Hopefully they have fixed that. I did review their iPad Air 2 case, which is somewhat similar, and it was nice, but a bit on the bulky side.

Tech21 Classic Shell Wallet: A great case, but the cover does block the camera. The easiest way to deal with this is to hold it in landscape mode with the cover hanging down--that way, it doesn't interfere and you don't have to hold it back or anything. It is kind of irritating that the Tech21 Classic Shell Wallet doesn't have any drop protection rating, but it is supposedly very protective. I have personally seen Tech21 and TMobile employees drop and throw their iPhones with Tech21 cases on them and suffer no damage at all, so I do think their protection is quite good however.

Speck CandyShell Wrap: It is less slick than a regular CandyShell or CandyShell Inked case as it has rubber lines where the cover hinges are, but it is not as grippy as the CandyShell Grip by any means. It is a great case overall, and I think it provides excellent protection to the screen. (I also wish they'd come out with a CandyShell Grip Wrap, as I love the Grip. Besides, Grip Wrap is fun to say!)

Spigen Case Wallet: Sorry, no experience with this case :(

Hope this helps!

Kristin

With the 6s plus I might have to go the folio route. Concerned about a glass screen protector with the 3d touch

I have wondered about how it will work as well. I've heard that thin glass screen protectors should be OK, but I guess no one will know for sure until they get some hands on experience with the new 6s/6s Plus...
