I searched the forums, and only found old posts about this, ie before the 2.0 software was announced.
One thing that really bothered me with the 1.0 software was the process for speed dialing. I was used to being able to just hold down a key on my phone and calling someone. With the 1.0 software using the speed dial was cumbersome. When Apple made webclips I thought that would be a great idea for speed dial as well. If I could have an icon on the home screen for the people I call the most that would be great. Is this even possible with the new 2.0 software?
Is making an app that would accomplish this possible? I don't have the time or desire to learn to program an application for the app store, so if anyone else thinks this is a good idea, please make an app for it, and I will be the first in line to purchase it!

Why not just save them to favorites, then hold down home button to call up favorites and click the contact? Better than that app...

I host webclips on my server. I point the png file to an html page that utilizes the "tel://xxx-xxx-xxxx" link structure. It works, but it has to open Safari and go to the page to activate the call link. Stick with favorites, it's faster.
