So I was kind of looking forward to try to use a speed sensor with the Apple Watch fitness program for my mountain biking. So once I had watch is 10 installed I was able to pair the Bluetooth sensor to the watch but apple gives you no ability that I can find to set the wheel dismeter and the tire width. WTF apple. Do they understand any of these fitness features they keep adding? They really don’t seem to understand the outdoor market at all. The sensor is useless if you can tell it what diameter you are using as it reads completely inaccurately. My text ride had it off from my garmin edge 530 using the same sensor but almost 15%.
interestingly it i did download workoutdoors and that also looks like it will connect to the sensor and it lets you enter the needed information. How can a company like apple continue to miss the mark with fitness activities? Very disappointing.

They only care about 90% of people. They know many will never use this. I am surprised they added power meters pairing.

Wheel size should be in the Bluetooth settings; click the blue "i" information symbol next to the paired device:

A few days ago I paired both Garmin sensors V2 (cadence and speed) with my AWU via bluetooth without any problem.

However, there is still a bug with the cadence reading because at the end of my every ride all final values (average, min & max) are counted together with zero values. Yesterday I rode my bike with 7X and AWU on both wrists and at the end the 7X showed 74 rpm average - what is correct, when the AWU showed 35 rpm :D

For the speed sensor I am even able to set my wheel size etc. but there is no information in Apple Health after the ride at all.

So both sensors are useless for me, as well as that watchOS 10 new feature.

I had tried that and was not seeing any options. I tried again and it looks like the sensor needs to be actively connected not just paired to see the settings. So I was now able to set it. Though they are still missing a ton of tire widths. Nothing tween 2.25 and 2.5. Many MTB tires are 2.35 and 2.4. Whatever. Close enough. Or I will just use work outdoors. Thanks.

The tire width is unlikely to affect the speed reported from the speed sensor. It only needs to know the tire circumference.

Tire width does have a (not very uniform) correlation to circumference, though. Wider tires have a taller profile as well, but it’s inconsistent across tire types so it’s not a very useful means of making a speed sensor more accurate. It is, however, better than nothing.

You can either set the tire width and diameter or enter the circumference in mm.

On your wheel using chalk mark a line on the tire and onto the ground. Do a full rotation and mark on the ground again. Measure the distance. Enter the circumference

Speed sensor seems to work for indoor cycling only. It can be set either tire size or wheel circumference, but it is still useless. I tried with outdoor cycling but when turning wheel it did not work. Only for outdoor cycling workout it shows speed. All this cycling computer idea is great, but this and no maps is sad

Can anyone confirm if something has changed regarding the cadence sensor in watchOS 11? Does it still count zero values?
