I currently have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, and it's been exceedingly slow since I've ever bought it (though it's unexpectedly faster then the Tab 3, in my opinion.) I've installed a vanilla launcher from the play store, and that's helped with most of the lag. So touch wiz is probably one of the issues sorted out. Any other work arounds?

Unless you can flash a clean cyanogenmod mod rom then you will still be stuck with Touchwiz no matter what vanilla launcher you utilise.

You can put a dress on a pig, but underneath its still a pig....

I installed Google now to my Note 3, (thanks MacRumorUser for helping) and noticed most of the lag was gone, so yeah it seems like the launcher helps a ton. You can also turn off many of the Samsung services running in the background.

Big fan of the Google Now Launcher myself - ironically though I am using Nova on top of my S4 GE but set up to match Google Experience Launcher. The benefit for me is that I can create folders in my app drawer and also create a shortcut on the menu button to trigger the multi-tasking selection.

I do prefer bigger icons that came with the google launcher.

Disabling every single "S-XXX" app on my S4 helped clear up some of the stutter and lag. As did disabling a tonne of Samsungs preloaded apps.

Hmm, is it possible to use Nova but have the Google now page when you swipe to the left? That might be the best of both worlds.

Not swipe left, but you can do Swipe up, down or double tap. (There are other gestures, but they require 2 fingers to use. I personally use swipe up.)

Nova Settings -> Gestures and Buttons -> Tap 'Swipe Up' or 'Swipe Down' or 'Double Tap' (whichever gesture you want to use) -> You will then see 3 tabs at the top of the page 'Nova' 'Apps' 'Shortcuts' -> Select Apps and scroll down to Google and tap it. -> Done

This. I was amazed at the difference doing that on my GTab 2 7.0. Performance and battery life have been dramatically improved. It even made the windowable applets useful.

Your best option would be to install cyanogenmod. You can either do the stable 10.2 ROM or the 11 m release. I really hate that Samsung's tablets are the most popular as there are much better android tablets. The tab series always seems to have slow CPUs as well.

The good news is from what I can recall the tab 2 series is well supported by cyanogenmod, although the best support would be the nexus series and other tablets that use a stock android base for their stock roms.

cyanogenmod is good on GTab 2 devices, but in my opinion not as good as a carefully pruned stock ROM.

are there any stock roms?
Stock Android or stock GTab? I was referring to the stock GTab ROM. I apologize for any confusion.

I find the stock GTab ROM that has been carefully pruned of S-apps to be superior to any other ROM available for the GTab. Samsung took the time to tune Android for their device... adding their bloatware on top of that is what causes the slowdown. Remove the bloat, and performance is fine.
