Got a spice gray rmb. After removing it a stain remains. Have tried everything at this - googone, alcohol, screen wipes all to vigorous levels including scrubbing with a tooth brush.

Concluding I have stained my rmb? You think? Thanks in advance for any answers.

Dang, looks like a stain to me. I think some of the above would make things worse potentially? Good Luck!

the same thing happened to my space grey iPad that i was trying to sell. people said if you leave it out in the sun it might go away. i didn't bother with all that. i put it up for sale anyway with a note to potential buyers.

bottom line is: don't put decals on yr devices.

I'm worried now that I may have done the same!- There were two white Apple stickers that came with an old iTouch. I used one of them to cover the reflective logo on my MacBook so that now it looks a bit more like a MacBook Pro. Would that stain? I'm scared to peel it off now.

Spice Gray... With that stain that spice gray MacBook isn't looking so spicy!

Sorry, that looks pretty bad. I would skin it as tejota recommends.

I guess this solidifies my tendency towards the traditional silver if I end up getting one of these in the future (after TB/Skylake+ at least).

I don't think its stained in the truest sense of the world, i.e., color as integrated into the the material, but I don't have an answer to clean that up. :( Have you tried just plain old dishwashing soap?

I think it's likely to just be vestiges of adhesive from the sticker/decal.

The top is just aluminium right? I'd try a solvent like nail varnish remover with a cotton wool bud (aka Q-tip), having first tried it in a small area on the bottom.

Why would you put a "dumb" sticker on a costly device? It seems to me you asked for this disaster, so live with it. You probably diminished resale value by at least a third.

Thanks everyone will try the sun thing - have tried some things like glass cleaner - may try a light solvent as suggested. May need to look into how the application process works to get some insight.

Think I was the victim of a 'questionable quality' decal - I've had several others on w/o impact.

Thanks. Will see if it fades.

I also just want to say, I put a "residue free" decal on a macbook air once and it left a stain as well. The stain wasn't as bad as on the space grey aluminum, but it was still visible. I really suggest people not put decals on anything that they might want the decal off of later. Glue just doesn't play nice with mac products.

Most likely this is not residue that can be cleaned off, but the result of the anodized layer being degraded from a caustic adhesive. Not much that can be done (cheaply) if that is the case, sorry.
