spilled coke..went into air vent..NEED HELP!!SOS!!

hi..
i spilled some coke on my Macbook last year and it went into the air vent..then i cant turn it on but theres no burnt-smell or anything..at first i tried plugging in the power cord and the green light indicated it was on..then tried again at reseller's place but now it just wont do anything....it just went off..

im a student so the guy told me i could try have it fixed at the university's computer service center..but then after two months and no news i decided to call them and then they told me that the motherboard is short-circuited and theres nothing they can do about it and a new one will cost more than the price of the macbook itself...

right now i dont know what to do as i can no longer torment myself with PCs(no offense to pc users..i just love mac) and i seriously need my macbook back.i really miss it and i hope anyone can tell me what to do to get it back.i cant afford a new one but i refuse to settle with something less than a mac.please help me!!

There's no way a logic board will cost more than the price of a new macbook. If you have AppleCare, you should be able to get it for free. Or if you've had your Macbook for less than a year, (which I'm guessing because they came out last May), you should be able to buy AppleCare for it and then get it fixed.

AppleCare covers you even if it is your fault? Hmmm, I thought it was just for defects.

It might be, I'm not sure. I always thought it was like Dell's CompleteCare warranty. I would definitely check that out then before buying it.

Edit: Yeah, just checked, AppleCare doesn't cover accidental damage. That's kind of stupid, Dell's warranty which is the same price does.

Anyways, get your macbook and take it to an Apple Store. It shouldn't me more than a couple hundred bucks to get it fixed.

You're right. They will not cover accidental damage caused by the user and being that it would be a hard one to explain a sticky soda-like substance inside the computer, you are most likely out of luck with AppleCare.

i hate to be repeating and bringing bad news, but the reality is that this situation is not covered by apple care. to be blunt, you did it, and that is not what apple care is for. I wish I had a different, more sympathetic answer for you, but since you have been waiting two months I thought it was important to just hear the deal straight up. The sooner YOU take care of it the sooner you will have the macbook back

i finally got my macbook FIXED for 20 BUX!
i brought it to indonesia.in 2 weeks it was done and working on just fine.very healthy in fact

i have no idea how but somehow the technician told me it was because im still covered under the warranty.

same thing happened to mine and was not repairable. Make sure you have good home insurance that covers accidents and also when out and about, paid my excess and received brand new MacBook Pro last week (with all files backed up to external file)
