Spilled on keyboard, imac, cannot get it to function.

I tried searching the forums, but there wasn't really anything about this, strange since it probably happens more often than with a macbook.

anyway, spilled a BIT of tea on the Keyboard on my two year old imac, the white one.

It was spilled on the RIGHT side, I immediatly cleaned it off, took some keys off and wiped it down.

let it sit, but now the Q through Z and 1 key do not work, that whole angled row. Really odd, since this isn't where the TEA was spilled.

I have tried removing all keys, wiping it down with water, blowing it with compressed air, letting it dry overnight, but cannot understand what is going on?

Is there something else one can do, some tear down? I know a new KB is only 50$, but that is a lot at the moment.

Don't use it at all. Unplug it immediately! Put it upside down to get the water out. Leave it in a jar or a vase or something, covered in rice, so that will absorb the water. Only more keys will disfunction from here on. There's probably no chance to recover those 3 keys that already broke. You need a new keyboard. Same thing happened with my aluminum Apple keyboard. Ended up getting a new Logitech Wave desktop set (Keyboard + Mouse). Great product. Sorry to hear!

I'm a lucky one, I did the same thing to mine, thought I broke it, overreacted by smashing in a cupboard door, then found out it was fine. I felt like an idiot.... Sorry to hear that you need a new keyboard(if its true, I don't know), but at least you dont need a new cupboard door

If buying a new keyboard is a burden financially perhaps it's time to re-evaluate life decisions.

yeah, both my local service guy and the apple store don't do anything with them, not worth the effort.

30$ from local, 20$ from the apple store for the original white with numpad keyboard. Seems like an easy deal, had I KNOWN it was so cheap, i wouldn't even have thought more than five minutes about it.

So in other words, you only made this thread because you perceived a new keyboard as costing $30 more than what it really did?

Unsure how one goes from "I know a new KB is only 50$, but that is a lot at the moment. " to not even batting an eye when it's available for $20-$30.

But no, I perceived that one could FIX some things with a keyboard, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

I understood that a new keyboard was 50$+ tax, which is a bit much at the moment. (don't attempt to question my financial situation or priorities sir/madame)

After ascertaining that indeed a keyboard repair is NOT in the cards, really ANYWHERE, I decided that I was unfortunately going to have to buy a new one - since well, one DOES need a keyboard.

Discovering that indded OLD STOCK INVENTORY of white imac keyboards were available and sold as a discount for 20$+tax, I bought one, since well, I DO need a keyboard.

Thank you though for the complete lack of any constructive input into this thread, why did you even follow it?

Keys not working on iMac aluminum keyboard

Apple's keyboards are crap! Never before in the last 25 years have I had a key go out. Now my iMac's A and Z keys are not working. And I'm a past owner of an Atari 400 with the membrane keyboard!

I've spilled coffee and soft drinks on my IBM Thinkpad multiple times. I've even dropped my T60p in the bathtub briefly while it was on. Needless to say it immediately shut off, but after a few hours on my back porch in the sun, it was good as new. I've also dropped it out of my backpack twice onto asphalt. One time required a new hinge and some new plastic trim pieces, but it's still working after 3 years of abuse.
