Perhaps this is OT for this forum and if so can the mods move it to where appropriate? Anyways I know its moot know but I have always wondered why Windows ran faster and smoother on a spinner than Mac OS X ever did? Spinners are rare these days but at my last job one of our PC's was running Windows 7 and had a spinner. That PC was faster than my then 2012 MacBook Pro which had a spinner. But machines had comparable specs, except my Mac had 8GB of RAM while that PC had only 4GB.

So again my question is.

Why does Windows run faster on spinning hard drives than Mac OS?

If your question is based on a single pair of machines you would probably have to look much more closely at the full specs and health of those two machines, and the software involved.

I have owned a few Windows laptops with spinners, many years ago (Vista and early 7 era ) and don't remember noticing them being faster and smoother. It is not a well known truth I am aware of.

You might reach more Windows users in the 'Alternatives to mac' section.

Mods can you move this thread?

Comparing feelings about smoothness of different operating systems and computers with the sole overlap that there’s a spinning hard drive of sorts is pointless. There are too many unknowns involved.
