iPad Spinning wheel of annoyance

Ever since i downloaded iOS 14.0.1 I’ve gotten a non stop spinning wheel. Called Apple support and they told me reset network settings and it went away for a while. It came back and I reset it again. Went away for awhile it came back again. I did a hard reset and it went away and of course(same pattern) it came back again. Has anyone figured this one out or do I just have to wait for iOS 14.2? This is on my iPad Pro 2020

An app is probably doing something in the background 24/7. Maybe try and figure out which app it is by looking at your battery statistics.
 
Same on my iPhone. It’s just an icon and no different than the other icons up there. Is it causing any problems?

Mine only does it when it’s loading an app or webpage etc, but goes away as soon as it’s done loading. Could be something running in the background.

Appreciate the reply. Yeah I looked into my battery stats in settings and saw the news widget ran a minute or so in the background so I deleted it to see if there was any change. Nothing. I’ve done my resets. I’m about to iMessage Apple support to see if they have any other suggestions.

I’d film it, maybe a screen recording, then call them, email the movie, report it as a bug. I wouldn’t want a chat support person to deal with this.

Could be the system is doing internal cleanup, uploading photos to iCloud, verifying location, or a dozen other things. It's so barely noticeable, unless you notice any performance degradation, likely not an issue.
 
Ok so the only thing that worked for me is completely erasing my iPad and starting fresh. It’s been a couple days now and I haven’t seen the wheel since. Make sure you create an iCloud back up first.

I'm on 14.2 beta... I still have the spinning wheel. Goes away but comes back. Drains the battery crazy fast. I'm several updates in and still have it.

This didn't work for me. Now I'm wondering if the backup reintroduced the bug.
 
I exchanged my iPad, updated to 14.2, and the spinning wheel is back. I don’t know how this is not a pasted thread. I’ve been on a couple different iPads and the spinning wheel still exists. I think this is an iOS 14 thing because now our devices have widgets that are constantly updating and other processes. Is this a permanent condition because of it? 💁🏻
 
I’m running 14.2 public release and the spinning wheel came back on my 12.9 today. Drains the battery super fast. If I turn the iPad off and back on it goes away.... until it comes back.

I was just about to wipe the iPad again but I decided to try it at another location with a different Wi-Fi router and so far it has not started spinning yet...TBD.
 
I've had this problem for years and I was surprised its not a common thread on these forums. My work ipad pro 2017 constantly has this issue and I end up just putting it away for a while. My wife has had the issue as well on every iphone she's owned and I thought maybe an upgrade to iphone se 2nd gen would help but no, still happening.

After I reformatted my iPad I didn’t setup mail this time. Just using the gmail app instead.

There was 1 occurrence of the wheel during initial setup and after installation of all the apps. I performed a hard reset and I haven’t seen it since. It has been about 1.5 weeks. Will update if I see it again.

So far it has not recurred.
 
A restart also helps on my iPhone SE (2020) – but only for a couple of minutes. After that the wheel shows up again (and spins and spins and spins...)
