1) Are third party apps going to be able to go split screen (I sure hope so).

and

2) If so, are you going to have to swipe through every app in the vertical scroll to find it? That'd be a LOT of apps to find the one you want? Any ideas?

1) Yes 3rd party apps will be allowed to add split screen support. But not until after iOS 9 is officially released. Devs can't put any iOS 9 updates to their apps on the App Store till then.

2) Probably. Same way you see and select the second app currently with stock apps in iOS 9 for split screen is probably how it will remain. (At least until they decide they want to change it.)

I've also been worried about this. The list is far to long as is and with everything alphabetical I find it hard to get to the apps I use most (messages, news, Safari).

All that can be done is send in feedback on it and wait. It's possible they already have a solution in place in later beta builds. I could see them making it have the same recent sorting as the app switcher uses (so most recent app used at top and so on, just like the app switcher sorts most recently used to oldest.)

Yep, I had planned to report it for a couple days now. Problem is I get a little lazy so I have 8 bug report drafts lol.

Question 1 has been answered but question 2 is interesting. I feel that slide over will have all apps available for slide over and split screen, however Apple may add to edit your most important/used apps at top and easy to access.

Developers are not allowed to submit apps to the App Store that have been compiled using the iOS 9 SDK which is what enables them to incorporate split view. They won't be able to do so until Apple begins accepting iOS 9 supported apps which won't be until the GM seed comes out in September.

I understand third party devs can't submit apps, but we are talking about Apple, so I don't put anything past them. Sounds like everyone agrees they will allow third party.

Sorry, should've been more clear I guess.... I meant they can't submit them now, but WILL be able to when the Gold Master version of iOS 9 is released.

Edit: Wait, I said that already....

I wasn't denying that third party apps would support split view, I was merely saying they aren't allowed to be updated to support it just yet.

I understand devs cannot yet submit apps. I was just wanting to be sure Apple would allow them to take advantage of split screen.

I'm hoping they keep it alphabetical but put a quick jump A-Z down the side like there used to be for songs/albums, etc. Then put a top 3 most used apps at the top of the list or something.

Since the first dev beta for iOS9, I have really noticed how make or break split screen is in terms of how much it's going to rely on developer uptake, I'm yet to use it in a serious fashion, beyond just testing it. I just slide over for my mail (When it bloody works!) but what I really want to use it for is two safari tabs, or youtube and netflix.... I am not confident google are actually going to bother updating it, and I don't think Netflix will either.

Why's that?

And what's the point of using YouTube and Netflix side by side? You're gonna watch two videos at once?

Poorly worded, sorry, I meant Youtube or Netflix with Safari :)

I find it hard to believe Netflix would want you to be doing things like that with their content if they don't have to [make the changes]. And as for google updating their app, they can barely get it to function on 8.4! :p

I think it would be good to start a wiki topic as soon as 3rd party developers released a version of their app that supports Slide Over, Split View, and Picture in Picture as soon as iOS9 is officially launched.

I am pretty sure there will be a way to select only apps you want, perhaps something like a recents list, or maybe even the ability to only include apps you want to multitask with. Even something like the contacts list, with small letters by the side which you can tap in to quickly jump to that section, would be useful for quickly navigating through all your apps.
