Hello,

I think split screen is a great feature but I think it could be improved.

Firstly: when I activate split screen by holding the green button down I can't then open a new window or application for the second split view. In other words, if the windows aren't already open on the desktop I have to quit the split view, open the second window and then re-initated split screen.

I think it would be much better if you had access to the dock (& menu bar) allowing the user to open a new window or application which will then automatically fill the second side of the split view. I know the dock and menu bar is available (hidden) in split screen mode, but it isn't actually available until both split screen windows are initiated.

Secondly: I love that you can drag a window to the top of the screen (activate mission control), and drop the window onto another fullscreen space to create split screen. However I think it would be even better if you could drag and drop a window onto a space which already has split view to replace one of the windows. The displaced window would automatically be moved to another fullscreen space.

For example I have a space with Safari & Mail split screen. I then open a calendar app from the desktop and drag and drop it onto the right side of split view (mail) replacing the mail app so I have a Safari & calendar split screen instead. To achieve this currently would involve leaving split view and re-initiating it.

I think the two suggestions above would make split view more flexible and 'mac like'.
Personally I would have preferred split view to be similar to Windows or the window snapping tools such as better touch tools etc. It is simpler, less clunky and all apps work.

Menu bar bug: Also if you initiated split view but don't then choose a second window, but instead click on the first window it activates fullscreen but the menu bar does not work at all. The only way to get it working again is to press esc and leave fullscreen or activate mission control and then go back to the fullscreen window. This is definitely a bug and I will send a feedback report. The dock still works though. Can anyone else replicate this bug?

What are your thoughts on split screen and the suggestions above?
Thanks.

Just get BetterTouchTool. It does everything the right way, seeing how Apple's copying of MS Windows window snapping failed hard.
