Split Screen issue in Big Sur

Anyone else seeing this... ?
In Big Sur (on a brand new M1 Air), I can no longer create a split-screen with Mail and Messages.
On my old Air (2018, Catalina), this was my standard setup for communications... a single full-screen split, with Mail on the left-pain, and Messages on the right-pain.
Now, with the new Mac running Big Sur 11.0.1, it won't let me utilize a split-screen with Mail and Messages. I can only maximize them each into their own full-screen window.
Minor deal, granted... but is it a glitch? Or is it a feature that's been removed?
Help is appreciated.... thanks all...

Change the Display from Default to Scaled, and select a higher resolution. It will work, just not on the Default.

I am using a macbook pro 15 mid 2015. Should I upgrade?
