So, as the title says, I've tried it with Maps, Safari, Pages, Mail, and if it's just a matter of holding the Maximise green button, it's not working. I've restarted the computer (Late 2013 MBP).

Is it something we have to enable first in System Preferences or somewhere?

Thanks!

No, there's nothing to enable. You're not receiving any type of error messages? It's really as simple as clicking and holding the green maximize button.

This is not working for me either, at all. I've tried everything. Holding the green button, dragging an app onto a full-screen app using Mission Control, and everything else I can think of. On a 2014 iMac 5k. This is very frustrating! Has anyone gotten Split View to work?

No, no error messages. As if it was still Yosemite (I checked, it's not!)

Same here. I tried the green button, the Mission Control way, and nothing.

Found the fix — this is actually pretty bad on Apple's part. They seem to be slipping. In order to use Split View, you have to go to System Preferences > Mission Control > Displays have separate Spaces (be sure this option is checked). Then log out and back in. Then it all works.

Why must this option be turned on? Why doesn't Apple tell us this important fact? I've always had this option turned off and I prefer it off. Very strange indeed. At least its working for now. Hope this helps someone.

THANKS!!

It's actually very confusing to have already a coined name (Split View) and call it like that in Syspref.

Mine was also on by default but still not getting split view.

EDIT: Now working perfectly. My IT person had installed Yosemite instead of El Capitan

And not all apps can use split view. Does that mean we're going to get a few dozen updates in the next few weeks?

(BTW, Apple should have chosen a name other than "Split View". That lends itself to a rather childish insult ... "Sh** View".)
