I downloaded the trial version of creature creator and I have been having a blast! Is it worth getting the full version? It is only $10 which is a steal for a small yet fun program like this.

FUN THING: When your at the galaxy thing and you have the option to "Load a creature" or "Create a creature" hit between them (there should be alittle purple dot that shows up when you mouse over the middle). Then zoom out and spin the galaxy as fast as you can and see what happens after a couple seconds. :)

No, it's not worth it. Why?

Because it makes me want to play Spore that much more, and my time machine is broken ATM. :(

definitely worth it. you can find some places that include a 5$ refund on the full version or a 5$ gift card when you purchase. the full version has a lot of fun parts to use.

Well, it IS pretty fun to create monsters, last night I literally laughed like 10 minutes straight at some of the stuff I created.

The only thing is, it's not very flexible, I wish the full version has a lot more parts (what's with the forced symmetry on creatures?) and a lot more options to modify your creature (and a much better painting option), I'm underwhelmed but like you say it's still a great little thing and for 10$ it's not such a bad value considering there's tons of fun to have with it.

Just remember, tab opens additional rotation options, control lets you place limb-on-limb and alt lets you duplicate parts.

Thanks. And Command is for right-click. Oddly enough, the standard Control-click won't work, nor will the right-click built into Mac laptops.

I also realized the forced symmetry which did seem odd considering the fact that the developers are really into open-ended creativity. And thanks for those key commands, which should help a lot. Did you try the galaxy spin thing?

Yeah lol how did you discover that? It took me a few tries before I could spin the galaxy fast enough (I've never seen so much tearing on my monitor :p).

I hope Maxis powers up the creator for the full release, maybe the forced symmetry was necessary for gameplay and proper animation but still, I wish parts had more parameters to modify. Also I hope that's not all there is to Spore creature modification, while fun, it just seems a little shallow.

I may be one of few, but the CC actually hyped me down a bit about Spore.

Actually I think the forced symmetry is in keeping with the science of the game. Symmetry in living forms is pretty much the norm from what we know with rare exception. Whether it was intentional or just easier from a coding and gameplay perspective, it's more in keeping with how lifeforms are likely to develop. You can do monostructures, but they are only along the centerline.

The various motion algorithms--walking, jumping, striking, etc.--for independent, arbitrarily-placed appendages would have made this a serious processor hog. They would've also had to allow for player selection of dominant appendage, and other fun things. Maybe Spore2?

I think my mouse went over the purple thing which I clicked and then started moving the galaxy. Then I of course said to myself, how fast could it spin? And I'm glad that my monitor wasn't the only one teared up.

It got me more excited for Spore; to me it said "Hey, you can do this and more" so I guess that's how I saw it. And from what I've read about Spore, it is not primarily based around CC, but around evolution of that species played out through 5 levels. The five levels are cellular, creature, tribal, civilization, and space. I also heard that the cc is really part of the "sandbox" feature in Spore.

I'm still excited about Spore, I just thought creatures were the focus of the game but the actual progression/evolution and the mashup of user-generated content seems to be the focus of the game.

From what I've seen, it's more of a create-your-own-galaxy and see how it all plays out (with user intervention, of course :D).

From what I've read, the 5 phases each have very different play styles--like separate (but related) games, really. But you don't HAVE to play through all; if you wish to play just one or two, supposedly you can. In which case, the focus is yours to set.

As for the Creature Creator, I believe you DO use that in the second phase, not just the final sandbox.
