I resisted because the game although it seemed interesting did not appeal to me. And the final verdict of those who partook?

Best game ever?

Momentary fad?

So so...?

Bad?

I could never get into it... it seemed like they tried to squash multiple game types into one... by the time you were getting used to a certain kind of game they pulled your character(s) into another game type which you may or may not enjoy or understand... it'd be like if you leveled up a guy in an FPS to play Football which would allow him to play Bejeweled...

I voted 'OK'. Not terrible, but not all that great either.

I've also played the iPhone and DS games from last year, and also the recent Wii and DS games ... the PC one is best, and still not so great.

The jest of it is, it's not the SimEverything / spiritual successor to SimEarth Wright claimed it would be many years ago. They really "dumbed" the play down for the Sims crowd.

That's not to say it isn't fun for a play-through, but as is it's a glorified creature building game with some RTS stuff tacked on.

Of course that's provided you can get the game to run with any stability. Patch 1.03 broke FPS on ATI cards. Didn't get fixed till patch 1.05. Now it's broke on ATI cards again in 10.6 so I've rarely gotten to play the game I dropped 50 bones on anyway.

Short story, it's worth 20 bucks when it does run, but not full priced 50.

It's pretty good, but I had 3 copies and they all said the serial code was used, so I gave up and got my money back.

I liked this game. I still play it on/off again when I have a break between semesters.

It was a big disappointment for me. It seemed liked no matter what I designed my creature like it never really changed the gameplay. And the first half of the game, where all the fundamentals of your creature are made, has very simplistic gameplay. Things don't start getting in depth until your creature is already established and then you spend most of your time designing Flintstone-esque buildings and cars. If you like drag and drop, plastic architecture this can be kinda fun but it in no way impacts the game play. Boring.

Good concept, bad implementation.

In the end, character design doesn't mean ****, e.g., more legs doesn't mean faster movement, more eyes more ability to see. If you've managed to get 1 race from multi-cell to spacefaring, then you've done it all. No need to go back and do it again.

Inexcusable! Really, as in what's the point? You might even think that you could tweak certain physical characteristics for specific advantage. It takes away from the aspect that a certain feature developed as per evolution, those with characteristics in harmony with the environment survive, but it sounds like you are designing creatures for aesthetics vs practicality and no advantage gained.

Creature Creator

I bought the creature creator version for like 5 bucks. My 6 year old loves making new beasts about once a month or so. In terms of fun, money spent, time played it was a good deal.

Is anyone running this game adequately on a GMAX3100 MacBook? It's been purchased for a nephew. Thanks and happy holidays! :)

It may or may not be a good game to play: my kids love it. But it is a total nightmare to install.

i have had to spend around 3 solid days, trying to install, find patches, apply patches, uninstall and reinstall.

I'm currently uninstalling and reinstalling the Galactic Adventures expansion pack - again. Once I've done that, then there's the GA patch. And there's no guarantee that it'll work then.

The Spore forums are full of people with the same or similar problems. if you want to save yourself huge amounts of grief, avoid it.

[Although this rant is my first post, it felt good to get that off my chest :)]

I installed the game (no expansions) on my wife's x3100 MacBook for our grandson to play when visiting. It had several substantial patches to download, but they installed without incident and the game seems to run pretty good. Best of all, no disk required to play. It looks ok, but does not really grab me. However, my wife has been eyeballing it. I'm gonna keep an eye on her. ;)
