The Flueroastamer bands or commonly referred to as sport bands is Widely available in more colors and are extremely durable. As where is the Sport Loop band is made of Velcro and isn't water resistant, but is also very durable, but limited in colors.

I replaced a sport band with the sport loop to get a better fit. Now it’s snug enough to stay signed in but not tight so it causes discomfort. Perfect. But that might not be the teenage priority.

I didn’t think that you got color choices on the initial purchase. As i told them when they were 4, “You get what you get and you don’t get upset”. If they want other colors they can spend their own money!

Silver Aluminum gets Fog Sport Band, or Seashell Sport Loop.

Gold Alum comes with Pink Sand Sports Band, or Pink Sand Sports Loop.

Get the sport band that comes with the watch for both of them. Then give them each a $50 Amazon gift card and let them buy another 5-10 bands of their choice.

Good idea. Watch from Grandma, band money from us.

I would order the watches with the sport loop since there aren't any 3rd party sport loop bands available yet but you can buy cheap 3rd party nylon or regular sport bands.

I'd go for the Sport Loop too, because they're NEW!!

Easy to buy Sport Bands etc, but as I understand it, Apple also offers the option to swap back to the Sport Band version as an alternative to you returning and buying again.

ie Silver: Seashell Sport Loop <-> Fog Sport Band
Gold: Pink Sand Sport Loop <-> Pink Sand Sport Band

PS The Pink Sand Sport Band purchased separately has a silver pin, while the one that comes with it has the gold pin. You may want to be mindful of that so either buy the Sport Band or swap it out. Easier to purchase the Pink Sand Sport Loop which is no different.

My revised advice would be Silver with Sport Loop; Gold with Sport Band.

If you're buying direct from Apple, can also return Watch, swap bands (see above) etc.

My dad snuck a watch onto my wrist when I was sleeping on my 12th Birthday. Still remember the excitement of waking to find it next morning.

When I was young (long, loooong time ago...) new watches was a real thrill. So many different types to choose from it seems such a shame Apple Watch limits so much for Watch faces.

I’m sure the watch was great but that memory is forever!

First watch I wanted was one of the red LED--push button to see time variety. Lucky kids now, but then they have higher expectations.....

i wish i was your kid :)

I have 17 y/o twin girls who don't really like to shop or go to the mall. They only get clothes on sale from moderately priced places and scoff at their friends who are into labels. The other day one asked me for the ebay sign-on so she could buy some $6 socks. We went to Europe for 2 weeks and I told them they could buy anything they wanted in London/Paris/Rome as a memento - money was no object. They came back with an ice cream scoop, a key ring, and some books. They ask for little and appreciate what they get so indulging them with watches (that they haven't asked for) is fine.

Plus, neither they nor their close friends have boyfriends! I'm a very lucky dad.

Just make sure they have good enough iPhones!

That you know of! :p
