I bought the Violet Dust Nike Sport Band because just looking at it by itself laid out at the Apple Store I thought it looked great. But when I got home and put it on my SS AW it didn't look as good?!? I ended up returning the Violet Dust. I guess I have trouble imagining what the band will look like installed on the AW. Or is some other phenomena going on?

This happened with Blue Orbit too. It looks great by itself, but once it's put on the SS AW it still looks good, but not as good by itself?!?

colour clash. same reason the official link band looks funky on an apple watch sport. the sport bands are designed for the slightly duller tones of the aluminium watches.

Ah, makes sense. I'm thinking of getting the Apple Link Bracelet for my SS AW. Do you think the Space Black Link Bracelet would work with a SS AW? Would the SS link bracelet look much better on a SS AW than the Space Black link bracelet?

The stainless steel link bracelet is intended for the stainless steel watch. You can easily mix and match the stainless steel link bracelet with the black stainless watch or the stainless watch with black stainless link. They look goodwith the matching colors and the contrast works as well.

Agreed with @Relentless Power - mixing either SS band with either SS is fine. It's the colour tone and material that determines the match much more than the colour itself. That's why it's almost impossible to get a stainless steel band to match an aluminium watch; tiny lighting changes could throw off the match completely.

Do you still have the blue orbit band and is it 42mm? I really want one of these but they are out of stock everywhere.

Never bought the Blue Orbit. I bought Violet Dust because Blue Orbit was sold out. I saw Blue Orbit on a SS AW at an Apple Store.

Going to disagree with the two above and say hell no

I own a Space Black watch and a silver watch, and I think mixing the bands looks awful (I own a SB Milanese and a silver Link) go for the Stainless Steel Link Bracelet!

Au contraire ... Stainless Steel Watch + Space Black Link band = the VERY BEST Apple Watch look!

Somewhere deep in the "show off your watch" mega-thread there are pictures of this terrific combination.

Care to elaborate? Do you think the SS Watch also looks "awful" with a black leather or sport band? Or ist it just the black link that looks "awful" to you?

Just the link I like it with the sports and and the classic leather. There is just something about the SB link and The SS that just looks off to me.

I really think this statement is inaccurate and in fact untrue. Otherwise last year we would not have seen various SS and sport band combos. Such a broad statement you made and I think it’s nonsense basically.

Being designed with something in mind does not mean it won't look good with something else, it just doesn't guarantee it. It's nice that you feel confident enough in your opinion to tell me mine is nonsense. Good for you. Perhaps you can suggest another reason OP felt that the sport band didn't look how she imagined with her SS watch?

Fact 1 - the colour tones of aluminium and stainless steel are different. Fact 2 - apple's online store displays them with aluminium watches only. Why is this? Because that's what they base their colour matching decisions upon; making sure they look good with the sport watches.

As it’s 00:22 here in the UK - just off the top of my head. Could it be the lighting in store vs home? Change of her taste? A condition affecting the eyesight? I think even the OPs reasoning is a little strange to be honest. To me any band would look better against the gleam of the SS rather an relatively dull aluminium finish. The colour one buys is the colour it is, I don’t think it’s anything more than tricks of the light.

An artist friend suspects it has to do with the color of the band against your skin tone. One's skin tone is acting as a background.

Oh wow. Try replying in the morning when you're less rude and self righteous. A change of taste within an hour? or a condition affecting her eyesight? Why would that condition not affect her consistently?

Anyway, take a look at my follow up reply to the OP. It's funny how you ridicule what I said, and then go on to make the same point. The colours don't change, but perception of them does. Light (and the way it interacts with surrounding materials also) plays a huge part in that.

That's another factor in perception of the colour. Along with other things that are really personal and hard to be objective about, such as the relative size of the watch (ie, how much you can see on your wrist vs the watch casing). Some of my sports bands just don't go with the plain SS watch at all; the brighter sports bands (like the original green) are so bold that they need to be paired with a muted aluminium finish watch and take all the attention. More muted or darker colours work with the SS watches and allow it's shininess to take centre stage.

The best example of the above is the black sports band. When paired with the space grey it works great. When put with my SS watch, it looks quite classy. When put with my original silver sport, it made it look like a toy watch. Colour affects perceptions of all sorts, including size, shape. etc

Firstly, I wasn’t rude.
Secondly, when you stop preaching like you know everything about colours and stop using terms like “must be paired with”
“looks classy” “toy watch” etc i will listen - these are your opinions only. As you said yourself it’s all a matter of opinion. The green sport band goes very well with SS, as do most colours. That’s my opinion. Neither of us is more correct than the other. It’s a matter of taste.

Suggesting that op saw the colours incorrectly because they have an impairment is rude.

Read my second sentence in reply to op, realise everything after was by way of logic acknowledged as an opinion. Kindly read thoroughly, it may stop you finding faults that don't exist and triggering the keyboard warrior within.

I think the space black link bracelet looks nice with the SS AW because it complements the black screen. Also, the off-coloured connector isn't too bad, it's similar to the leather loops or the sport/nylon straps.

Not sure about the stainless steel link bracelet with the space black watch though, feels like the colours clash especially due to the lugs. I think this is the same issue when pairing the classic buckles with the space black AW.
