Spot behind MBP monitor

As the title says, there is a spot behind the built-in monitor on my SR MBP. It looks like a large speck of dust, but it is right in the middle the the screen and gets really distracting. Is there a way to blow the dust out from behind or something without having to go to the trouble of sending it in? I would not be averse to dissembling the monitor if was relatively risk-free.

are you sure that it's not the apple logo shining through? It's basically a cut-out so if you're facing the sun, it will shine through and make the middle spot a little washed out...

To the OP, if the spot bugs you that much, just try to get an exchange from apple. Just explain that you do work where it is necessary to have a clear picture (whether or not that is true) and you should be able to get a replacement without trouble.

Shoot... don't even make something up...just say point blank. This is unacceptable and I will not leave the store unless you A get this fixed for me, B exchange it for me, or C: Refund my money.

QC needs to be addressed with our beloved Apple Company. The more we force them to look at it the sooner we will see less thermal paste on out heatsinks, less yellow LED Backlights, less randomly restarting units, less mooing, less whining, less power cord melting, less screens not sitting level on the laptop. (Need I go on?)

Hahah... a few months ago i had just cleaned my MacBook screen for the first time. It was off, but open, and sitting on my desk. I noticed a pale patch in the middle and FREAKED OUT, thinking I had scratched the screen and worn away a patch of... whatever. Turns out, my lamp was shining through the logo. I sure felt like an idiot.

Thanks for all the input. I will have to send it in since there is no Apple store within hundreds of miles from home, even though it's in the U.S. I do need a screen that is free of spots for my photography work, and even if I didn't, it would still be a big enough issue to send the computer in for. I do realize that the apple logo on the back can shine through; I like to turn off the backlight and shine a flashlight through it. It is more like a large speck, but not on the front of the LCD where I can wipe it off.

P.S. If I do send the computer in, should I back up my hard drive completely first?

I'd back up my hard drive anytime I'll be having work done on my computer. I've experimented with a flashlight on my old MB, and really, it won't have much of an impact unless the screen is very dim or off, and has a light pressed right up to it. I'd say you have something else wrong with your screen.

It seems that I have the very same problem here. At first I've mixed it up with dead pixels...

...but I am more and more sure that it is dust. And it is getting more badly. In the meantime there are eight larger or smaller spots all over the screen. I am afraid they didn't seal it closely enough. My MBP was only in clean and almost dust-free environment (my livingroom).

Same question here. My Apple dealer in Vienna/Austria gave me an address of a certified repair office here in town. As soon as possible I'll go there and show them the problem. I'll let you know here in this thread what they are saying (or doing).
