I Installed SpotBright from Cydia this morning on my 3GS, its an awesome idea , but it crashes my springboard everytime i use it anyone else???
maybe its ready for 3.0 3G , not the 3GS yet..

I installed it on my 3GS and it seems to be crash heavy on that as well. Here's my experience:

If I go to spotlight and type C it brings up everything that starts with C as it should. If I type Y after the C it crashes immediately. The same thing occurs if I type I followed by N, as well as F followed by R, and M followed by X.

The one thing these letters have in common? Well the only programs I have installed that aren't from the App store are CYdia, INstallous, FReeze, and MXtube. I haven't yet found any other combinations of letters that lock up the iPhone, but it seems to me that at least in my instance, I can only type one letter of apps that are sourced from any place other than the app store.

Hope this helps in any debugging that needs to be done.

ETA: I just thought of trying categories. I can type C and A without it crashing, but as soon as I type the T it crashes.

ETA: It also crashes when I type IS IR and MR. I can't explain any of those. So it looks like it's not just non-app store apps. Also it DOESN'T crash when I search for "apps" created by the categories program.

Spotbright , it is working fine on my 3g but crashing on my 3gs . And it only crashes when I type a few letters in for me it started crashing when I was typing in messages I got ME then when I pressed S it crashed tryed a number of times and same thing tryed reinstalling it and same thing tryed uninstalling it and reinstalling it and same issue . When I uninstalled it the new search menu that comes with the 3.0 FW works fine it's def an issue with the spotbright hopefully gets fixed soon cause It is a great feature especially when you hide apps that they now show up ! Does anyone know If Ibluetooth is up and running for 3gs ? Or when it will be ?

No problems on 3GS

This thread is surprising to me, i've been using spotbright on my 3GS and its been working great, i can type C,A,T,E and everything is fine and Categories and some songs are the only things that come up, same with Cydia, I can type the whole name and nothing crashes.
This is strange to hear that people are having problems. It says its version 0.3. I wonder if it has to do with the order things were installed??? Intriguing problem to be sure.

i agree, it has been pretty much working flawlessly. my only problem is that i cannot search for the "camera" app. it opens up photos haha.

I am having the same issue. Spotbright is not worth the hassle at this point. I unistalled and not only has iPhone not crashed but it is much zippier without it.

I know I'm a little late to the party but I was having crashing problems as well. I went into Settings -> General -> Home -> Search Results and unchecked everything. Everything is still searched and its pretty much made my Spotbright go from crashing if I typed 3 characters every time to 1 out of every 20 times.

I'll see how it does, these settings are in Supreme Preferences if you happen to use it.

Good thing you posted this tip. I'm having a problem with SpotBright 0.3 on my 3GS now. For fun, I was trying to search for the word "blackra1n" on my phone. If I just type "bl" it's fine. Then I hit the "a" key next....bam!...Springboard crash.

Using the tip above, I found that by turning off "Music" and "Mail" in the Search Results fixes the problem for now (I had to go through many SpringBoard crashes to narrow it down to these two).

I've Email'd the author. The crash is repeatable. Hopefully, he's still working on the project.

I never have any problem with this application, and I tick every single search item. Not a single crash. It has to be something else that causes your crash.
