Spotify allowing what Apple Music doesn't?

Hi Guys

Wonder if you can please help me.

In our house (2 adults) we have an AirPlay enabled AV Receiver, which we use to AirPlay tracks from Spotify to the AVR using our iOS devices/MacBook Pro.

The crucial thing here is that either one of us wants to be able to control/be in charge of the music FROM OUR OWN DEVICE, which Spotify allows with ONE account (i.e. we have one Spotify Premium account, logged into two different iPhones).

Obviously only one of us can be actively playing music at a time, but that's what we want.

In a nutshell it's so whichever of us is at home can control what music is being played from our own device, without paying for two premium accounts or a family account.

So far with Spotify the arrangement is working perfectly, but as far as I can see, with Apple Music, this arrangement wouldn't work? It seems that AM is linked to your Apple ID, and as both handsets are set up with a different Apple ID, that means we would need a family membership to be able to do what we do now with Spotify?

I really want to jump into AM, I'm a massive Apple fan and I've heard good things. But it seems the only way it would work for what we want it to do is to pay for the family membership, which is 50% more expensive than what we pay to Spotify.

Am I missing something, or is this just how it is? Seems remiss of Apple for there to be anything like this that Spotify can do which AM can't, as it seems people are abandoning Spotify at a rate of knots...

I think you got this part wrong. You can log in with any Apple ID you want in Apple Music, on any device. I just did that on my girlfriend's iPad (logged in with my account on an iPad configured with her Apple ID).

Ah, that's interesting. So in theory we could create a third, 'shared' Apple ID that we can both have logged into AM on our devices (but presume like Spotify - you can only have one device actively using the account at once) ?

Actually, it doesn't seem like it. I just used Apple Music simultaneously on the iPad and my iPhone (logged in with my account on both devices). Played songs I have never owned on both. I'm not sure if it's a feature or a bug they will fix eventually, but for now it works like this = better than Spotify.

Also, you don't need to create a third Apple ID. You can just have the other person log in to Apple Music with your Apple ID (the one that has the AM subscription).

Hmm, don't think this is going to work. When you sign into Apple Music with a different Apple ID it sets that as your iTunes Store account, so now the missus can't download apps and things because it's prompting her for the password of MY Apple ID as it was used to sign into AM....

Yes, that's true. It's one Apple ID for Apple Music, iTunes Store, App Store etc. However, you can use another Apple ID for iCloud and all its services (mail, backups, even photos).
