Is there much between them in sound quality?

I currently use Apple Music which I pay for with student discount. However I can get Spotify premium for free so I was wondering how is the sound quality especially when using AirPods?

Negligible. You would never be able to tell a difference unless you are listening to music on $2000 studio monitors. And even then, it’d be hard to tell that Spotify is just a little better.

Oh okay
might make the switch

when reading other threads people were saying how music sounded better with AirPods when listening through Apple Music as opposed to Spotify.

Do you recommend Spotify over Apple Music?

in what way

can you elaborate please?
For me Apple music just sounds clearer or better quality, obviously, you could set Spotify to High Quality and you may get the same results but straight up without any tinkering, Apple Music sounds better.

Another thing I don't like about Spotify is it won't auto download in the background, so say I want to download a playlist, it might take a min or 2 if its a big playlist, if I navigate away from Spotify or lock the phone etc it stops downloading or if the playlist is updated it won't update it until you open Spotify, Not so in Apple Music downloads etc all run in the background.

Oh I will bare that mind

Yeah you set Spotify to stream in extreme quality. I am not sure how different in quality it sounds then....

I think AM sounds better IMO. The sound is fuller. I hear more instruments in my AirPods with AM than Spotify. The same song sounds better in AM. I think it’s highly subjective.

I think I will stick with the Apple Music then

I am only paying £4.99 with student discount included

I’ve used both Spotify and AM extensively. I use AM for playback and Spotify for music discovery. For me, Spotify’s suggestions are better than AM. You could always use a free Spotify account for that.
