hello, i am having major problems with my spotlight, I recently re-installed tiger because i had the same problem before, where spotlight will just sit there no matter what i type in, then when i click back on it, it says No results found.
What i have tried:
1.putting preference plist. file onto desktop and rebooting
2.Using Onyx and trying to re-index
3.It won't let me add a drive to the privacy option (so i can't put it on and take it off)
4.IVE RE-INSTALLED TIGER AND I STILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM!

if anyone can help that would be great!

I dunno if this is the problem, but go into system preferences and click the spotlight icon. In there make sure that all of the check marks are checked in the "search results" tab.

How about....

Tried to repair permissions?

As a last resort I would...

Moving all files of your user onto a separate disk.
Then boot up with the install DVD and erase your whole HD, then re install tiger.
Copy your files back.

What sort of third party apps, hacks and plug ins do you have installed? Did Spotlight ever work on this machine? Did it work straight after you reinstalled the OS, before you reinstalled all your files, settings and apps? :)

i had it connect to an external drive, where i backup all my files and it was indexing and worked fine with both drives, then when spotlight was done indexing i unplugged the external and took my computer upstairs and plugged it in and Presto! NO spotlight.

Thanks,

So Spotlight only works when the external drive is plugged in? :)
I will have to verify this by going back to the extenal. But the smart status is verified and i am repairing disk permissions on my internal drive now. this is really frustrating. as i REALLY could use it while video editing with alot of random pictures and what not.. manually finding them is HORID.
