Spotlight crashing whenever I try to use it to open something

For some reason, my Spotlight has recently started crashing whenever I try to either open an app, or close the spotlight bar using cmd+space.

I've tried repairing disk permissions and quitting System UI Server in Activity Monitor, but it hasn't helped.

Any ideas?

Hi,

I would test Spotlight in another account.

If it works fine there, I would delete its preference file in your account.

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.spotlight.plist

Then reboot.

It seems to be doing the same thing in the other account.

Although I did make the account just now specifically to test this. I don't know if that would make any difference?

I see the future... I see.. a format > reinstall!
