I finally got around to installing the public beta last night (public beta 3) and ever since the fans have been kicking up. I looked into the issue and noticed that Spotlight is using crazy amounts of CPU and killing my battery. It's definitely that its indexing, but the progress bar has been empty.

Anybody else experience this? Does it just take a while to index with the new spotlight?

Spotlight in OSX Mavericks sucks so bad I had to kill it in terminal.

Fans were blasting, system slow even with SSD upgrade...gaaaa

After I killed spotlight, no fans, quiet, happy laptop.

Except no search - argh - Apple get it together.

Wish you could configure what spotlight looks at when it does its indexing.

It'll be indexing. Can take a while depending how slow and big your hard drive is. Be patient.. ;)

Thanks for the response - it never stopped indexing so I killed it. Have owned this laptop for 3+ years and it's never run as quickly or quietly as it does now without spotlight - fans almost never come on.

Wish I could "tweak" spotlight to just index file names in some directories.
