Does anyone know how to show the progress bar for indexing Spotlight in Yosemite?

I can get it if I do a partial search in the popup window, but I'd like to be able to monitor it without having to invoke that window. In Mavericks I could just mouse-down on the icon in the menubar.

I'm looking for the same. I just restored my Mac Pro to a new drive and I noticed its running very slowly. Pretty sure its indexing but I can't tell its status on indexing

got the answer.

type indexing into spotlight and the progress bar shows up as the first result.

looks like mine is going to take over a day to index. oy.

Wow, the only thing mine shows is the Wiki page and files on my drive with the name index in them. No status or progress bars.

this means it's done indexing.

the annoying thing is that it no longer gives you an approx time it takes to finish indexing, just a bar.

Has this feature been removed in El Capitan? I ask because there are other indicators that spotlight is indexing (mds process running, for example) – but I can't get a progress bar to show up in such a way.

Any tips on how to interpret results from the terminal such as:

How do you interpret these results of "mdutil -sv":

Scan base time: 2015-10-14 09:23:42 +0000 (90 seconds ago), reasoning: '(null)'

Does anyone know of a 3rd party utility that shows this progress information better?

I've started a related thread at Apple Discussions, but have yet to get any answers.

For the record, other similar threads at Apple Communities and AskDifferent.
