Okay, I have a big issue with spotlight on my iMac mid 2007 model. It is giving results that it is not supposed to give like files inside apps and files in my library that would normally be unsearchable without modifying the search in finder. So, Im getting like 3 copies of the contact whose name I type. It's not doing this on my MacBook. They are both running Lion GM. I've tried trashing various plists, repairing permissions, and reindexing, but nothing seems to help.

Spotlights plist is locked by default.
You can go to "Preferences>Spotlight>Privacy Tab" and add your main HDD to the ignore list, wait a few seconds and remove it. It will rebuild your spotlight database from scratch.

I have the same problem

I installed the Tiger GM over my existing Snow Leopard and I am having problems with spotlight also.

Even changing the spotlight preferences, it does not display folders and a lot of PDF files and strange files appear in the search results. Before I had not problem with spotlight and I did what it was supposed to do. Now the results are not relevant to my querry.

I think it has to do with having a HD drive in place of the original superdrive. My laptop is a new macbook pro 2011.

I have tried to rebuild spotlight indexes and the problem perxists.

I would appreciate some help on this matter.
regards
