hey all,

One of the main reasons I updated to iOS 9 leaving an iOS 8 jailbreak was proactive Siri and spotlight search for third party apps.

However, after updating my iPhone 6 to iOS 9, I can't get it to work as intended. I have many apps that are iOS 9 updated but the only ones to work are pushbullet and 1password. 1password too started working only after turning the toggle on within the app. I have many apps enabled under settings-spotlight as well. Spotlight seems to search only messages, email and notes and apps. Nothing else.

Is anyone facing the same issue? Any solution?

I am from India in case regional settings matter for this.

Thanks. Cheers :)

Most apps haven't been updated for spotlight search as of now. The toggles in spotlight settings don't necessarily mean the app is compatible with spotlight right now

But i am talking about the apps which are updated. Saw that in the notes of the updated apps.

Some apps will only show results of stuff you have already searched for in the all already. Imdb is an example of this. The screen captures show my spotlight search results before and after searching for the shawshank redemption in the IMDb app.

When I search for Shawshank, it's empty. Just showing 3 tabs "Search web', 'Search AppStore' and 'Search Maps'. Its like proactive isnt working.

That’s not Proactive, that’s Spotlight Suggestions of iOS 8. You can find a toggle for that in Spotlight settings as well. However, it is only available in a dozen of countries, India not included.

Results from apps you have installed is something that needs to be specifically supported. For some to me still unknown reason Apple decided to list all of your apps in Spotlight settings even though they don’t necessarily support it yet. An app like 1Password has been updated for this, but many others have not. Finally, some apps like IMDb have been updated for it, but because they don’t do any local indexing (like 1Password) and only web-based indexing, it may take a while until Spotlight results start to appear that you an open within the IMDb app immediately.

Same here.. I changed my region to United States and language to English United states too. But I still don't get spotlight suggestions.

I don't know how to get it work. I have tried resetting all settings as well.

I tried to replicate the same thing and it worked. Apparently for any search in IMDb to work, it has to be searched witching IMDb before which defeats the entire purpose. How stupid the entire implementation is?

To quote myself:

IMDb doesn’t download the entire film catalogue to your phone. When you use the app you are always interfacing with their online database. Once you view information on a film, the app will cache that result and expose it to Spotlight’s local index. But Spotlight also has a web-based index and a web crawler is busy indexing entire websites which will eventually show up in your search results as well. You just need to be patient.

Dropbox and Workflow claim to have been updated, but I can't get this to work either. iPhone 6.

I had the same problem in the beginning. I had to turn the switch off and then back on in Sporlight search settings for those apps that didn't work

Interestingly, the USAA banking app did get updated for Spotlight searching. I just can't figure out how it would be useful. I don't really want my bank balance searchable....
