Spotlight search is not showing Apps

I tried the following but it didn't help:

Check if Applications are selected in Search Results options https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/change-spotlight-preferences-mchlp2811/12.0/mac/12.0
If they are, uncheck and then select the checkbox again.

Try this:
sudo mdutil -a -i off
sudo rm -rf /.Spotlight*
sudo mdutil -E /
sudo mdutil -a -i on /

I tried. What seems to have resolved the issue was:
- boot into safe mode
- run Disk Utility -> First Aid (AFAIK this also repairs file permissions)

If you only want to see apps in a search sometimes (like me most of the time) I use Launchpad and have Control-Spacebar set up to open it.

I usually go to the Privacy tab: put the local disk in it..and then remove it. This would fix the DB.
