I’m running the latest IOS 13.1 Public Beta. When using the attached Smart Keyboard I use CMD+Space to pull up spotlight search. How do I pull up spotlight search without the keyboard? I used to be able to swipe down from the top and access it that way. What am I missing?

Never mind, figured it out, but it can only be done from the home screen. What if you have an app on the screen and then want to pull up another app to add to split view?

Unfortunately, adding an app from Spotlight seems to be one of the multi-tasking methods removed. That's too bad, as multi-tasking on iPad is difficult enough without tried and true gestures being removed. Hopefully they'll refine the whole thing, as its really a mess.

Thanks. Kinda defeats the point of being able to search from anywhere. Who wants to minimize their app to search? Hopefully it will return....

Back in maybe iOS8-ish or so there was a gesture where a short pull down from the top initiated Spotlight, even in-app, while a longer swiped brought in the notification centre. It seemed to confuse/upset some people though who were trying to get NC and ended up with Spotlight and it was ditched in the next release.

You can swipe down to open notification centre then swipe from left to right to go to widgets and search from there but unfortunately you can’t initiate multitasking this way, so unless they change this it is easier to go back to homescreen.

I definitely agree that you should be able to search from anywhere and initiate multitasking easily. Luckily the quick swiping between multiple slide over apps is one improvement.

Swiping down then from the left doesn’t work any more on iPadOS at least. You just get the widget screen, without the search bar. This is quite frustrating, unless I’m missing a setting.

I’m seeing the same thing. Went into widget setup but there’s no Spotlight/Search widget to add. :(

The only workaround I could find was to go to a home screen and swipe down from the top. Not as convenient, of course, but there we go. Wonder why they removed it?

If you can get to spotlight whilst using an app (I think you can only get there with an external keyboard right now), then you can still drag and drop from there.

Unfortunately though, at least for now, you need to pick up the app with one finger then swipe up from the bottom, or hit cancel with another.

If it is true that Apple has removed spotlight search from the widgets screen when initiated from within an app (not homescreen) then this really does seem like a deliberate move to add one more reason why someone might want a Smart Keyboard to make multitasking more user friendly. I hope I’m wrong and this returns.
