I've noticed that spotlight has been indexing my HD for a a couple of days now. What gives?

I'm having a similar problem (& posted a similar thread later Sunday, so far with no replies). For me it doesn't get beyond Estimating Time, and the system log shows mdworker crashing. Are your symptoms similar?

I'm having the same problem. Its been happening for the past 10 days. I will be taking it to the Apple store next wednesday to sort this and a few other hardware problems.

I managed to solve this problem. I did a clean install of Lion and its stopped indexing. The First time I booted after installation the spotlight started indexing for a few minutes and then it finished it.

As far as I know after upgrading to 10.8.2 from 10.7.5 it finished indexing just fine but now from time to time whenever I go to do a spotlight search I notice it's indexing for a few seconds and stops. Any ideas why or how to stop this? It's been about a week since I upgraded.

Do you mean upgrading to Mountain Lion solves this out?

Thanks in advance for your kind feedback.

Cheers,

Philippe
