What am I going to do ; I've just finished an assignment and had to put up with a squeaking space bar everytime i hit the space bar just right of central on my MacBook Pro.

What can I do?! :D

I've tried stabbing underneath it with paper. Any other suggestions?

Bring it to an Apple store or an authorized service center near you and have them look at it. It's likely a quick fix.

I had that problem when i first got my mbp back in November, that combined with a poor quality iSight. I took it to the local apple store and the declared it doa and gave me a new one :D

it went away after about a week on my powerbook. hopefully it goes away sooner for you...toss on some headphones while you type.

I had the same problem with my 12" PB. Maddening for sure. I never bothered taking it to a Genius Bar, but who knows. Maybe they can save you from the psychosis that will eventually set in from prolonged exposure.

Just an update, it actually has gone away . . . i think it was just the amount of words I was typing. :D

I did actually contact my Apple centre and they said they would fix it for me if it continues.

If it comes back again, dont bother taking it to the Apple Store. Had a frustrating experience at Pasadena Apple Store where the Genius literally said, "there are moving parts, it'll squeak like that". But when he took the spacebar off and put it back on (after like 15 minutes of struggling), it stopped.

So just take it off, and put it back on.

Take it to a Genius Bar. It's usually hit or miss with those guys... Most of the time they're cool and helpful... but if you get an idiot, just go to a different store or make a different appointment, and hopefully you'll get someone different.

Yeah I just got the LED MacBook Pro, and my wooting was subdued by the god-awful screeches emanating forth from the dad-gum spacebar! I thinks to myself, "Apple must have pissed off the Spacebar Makers Union of China" because this dang thing sounds like when we used to trap baby rats under the Extended Keyboard II's in high school biology.

So, "It goes away" huh? I'm sure it will after I make a stop at the Excalibur
sword store on my way to the Apple Store when I bring this thing back for exchange. "Huh? You think a keyboard is supposed to sound like a mouse, you retard? How about if I scalp you with this katana? Oh and call me 'sire' not 'sir.' " "OK, uh, sire, uh, you're right, we'll have you a replacement unit shortly."

Geniuses is far too generous a term, in my opinion. They're no better than most of us on this forum. We're all geniuses.

Mine squeeks because of all the crap that goes into my keyboard slits.

I eat food at my laptop, and sometimes crumbs end up there, and if that is trapped on the joint it'll cause it to squeek.

I've not been able to get my spacebar off - I don't want too hard incase I end up snapping it off.

EDIT - Just got it off, had a hell of a nightmare getting it back on - one of the clips came undone so I had to re align and pop it all through.

Thought I was gonna need a new spacebar, phew!
