Ok, so a few days ago, while surfing the internet with Safari in OS 10.4.3, with an airport extreme card on my iBook G4 (trying to give you as much information and still make it a complete sentence, hehe!), I noticed a squeaking sound coming somewhere within the computer. I thought it was the hard drive at first; but it couldn't be, since I could open any file or application and this squeaky sound wouldn't happen. It's a rather quiet, yet high pitched, sound. Also, I have been loading webpages in other browsers just fine, browsers such as FireFox, Netscape, and IE. (I've got a bunch...it's almost like my browser farm or something.) So, I would assume that this is the airport card squeaking, since it only happens while webpages load...but I am not sure what is going on, since this only happens while I am using Safari. Any ideas?

My Compaq P4 Laptop squeaks like CRAZY - the tone changes depending on the page load activity, and though it isn't very loud, it is persistent and almost amusing. That being said, I haven't noticed any squeaking on my iMac, and (sadly) I don't have any experience with the iBook other than the odd lustful glance. Still, it is my general impression (which might of course be highly incorrect ;) ) that in the case of very quiet computers, nominally 'silent' components make themselves heard, however faintly.

I could have an un-fed grizzly bear on my desk and wouldn't be able to hear it over my iMac's fans.

Ok...it stopped

Well, I already knew it wasn't coming from the speakers (I had ruled that out already)...**I have a habit of not shutting my iBook down for at least a week (put it into sleep at night--the boot time on these things isn't the best...), and I also leave Safari running at all times too, so that way I can pull up webpages in a flash...well, I had restarted Safari once before, and the computer still squeaked, but I restarted it today again also, and the noise is gone...thanks for all the advice!

I have the same thing, mainly when I am typing sometimes. Each type will give a squeak from within the computer (not speakers) that doesn't just sound like the key is rubbing, but rather something else. Scrolling makes noise as well, there are a few things that come and go that make odd noises which sound like they come from within. Hope your computer (and mine) stop making these.

Yours sounds like a common issue G5 powermacs have (well not an issue just something they do.)

Is yours an iBook ?

No, a G4 powerbook. 1.5 GHz, few generations back, the first generation they let you put in the 128 graphics card. I found it interesting since his iBook was also a laptop G4
