SR Mac Mini

Hi guys, I've looked around, but haven't found my answer; can we put the SR C2D in a Mac Mini that used to be a Core Solo?

Thanks for your quick reply - so the current Mini's aren't SR chips - is that right? Presumably, we can upgrade a Core Solo to the non-SR chips, maxing out at 2.33GHZ?

Unless, you need a dual core Mini to start off with....

Intel core2 duo chips for the Santa Rosa platform use an 800mhz bus.

You can get C2D SR chips that will fit in a mac mini(socket 479), however they will not work, as the bus speed on the mac mini is 667mhz.

OK - does the Solo have a socket 479 too? What is the fastest Intel chip I can put into a Mac Mini - will it be a 'Non-SR' C2D? What is the model number (e.g. 'T2300')

I basically want to buy an old Core Solo and slap a great big C2D for 1080p movies. I know it'll need a great deal of CPU horsepower, but I wanna hook this up to a Sony 40x3500 LCD TV through the VGA port.

The T7600 is the fastest processor you can put into the Mac mini.
