SR Macbook Pro: Do you use full brightness?

I just received a SR Macbook Pro (LG Matte) and am pretty happy with it so far. I do notice that the default colorsync profile is slightly yellow (even after all the software/firmware updates.) I'm still messing with the colorsync utility to find the right balance, but I have a question regarding brightness.

Does anyone actually use full brightness? I love how whites the whites look when I use full brightness but it is piercingly bright that I have to turn it down a notch or two. When I do this whites are much more gray.

What brightness level do you use?

Yes I use full brightness unless I am using it in the total dark. Then I turn it down 2 notches.
 
i also use full brightness. but i've hardly had the need to take my macbook pro out of the house lately, so it's been operating with the lid closed attached to an external monitor.
 
hmm yeap i use my matte at full brightness.

how do we tell what kind of screen we have?
is one better than the other?

and im also trying to find the corrent color profile...
ive tried others profile, calibrated my self with diff programs, but i still like the default the best...
 
depends. usually a few notches below full, unless in a brightly lit area.
When I first got mine, a friend with one of the first intel MBPs was looking at mine and mentioned the screen was 'way' brighter than his. he had his open next to mine comparing the two, I then reached over and maxed the brightness. he was speechless :D
 
Sometimes I think that full brightness is WAY too bright (right now I'm running five notches below full) and sometimes I'm on full and don't even realize it. Of course in dark areas full is WAY too bright and something below halfway is best... it all depends on your settings. If you can handle the brightness and like the whites, stick with it. But it could be that the whites look grey just because you were JUST looking at them being super bright. If you leave it at that setting your eyes may adjust and eventually think the whites look fine.

As for the color profile I didn't think my original color profile was bad but boy was I wrong. It was SO YELLOW, however it was immediately fixed by doing a calibration with the extra options. My screen is gorgeous now. Going back to the old profile I laugh!! It's SO yellow it's ridiculous.

Check under System Preferences, under the Color Tab on screen preferences you should be able to look up the details on the screen (ID 13 in the list). The where the model ends with 67 is LG, the 68 is Samsung.

LG seems to have less problems, but that's just judging from this forum. Samsung screens don't always display issues, but the frequency seems higher.
 
Mine is so bright compared to my old iBook that sometimes my matte screen seems glossy. Seriously, I sometimes wonder if I got the right screen!

I try not to use my new machine at full brightness.

I think mine is an LG. Now with the colors, I think I am slightly red green color blind (I especially have trouble differentiating shades of green), so I was wondering if anyone here had advice on calibrating the screen. The default profile seems fine, but if I can make it better, or more accurate, why not?

The screen does seem a little yellowish when viewed at extreme angles, but I think that is normal.

I use full brightness, and I turn automatic dimming off in System Preferences. As a matter of fact, the new screen has been the main selling point of the new MBPs for me. I have just upgraded from Rev A MBP.

Interestingly, my girlfriend cannot stand looking at my screen... When she has to use my MBP, she has to lower the brightness by about 50%.

Also of note, I do not see any yellow cast on my screen - either at full brightness, or at 50%. It looks the same to me, and in both cases the colors are quite neutral. I did calibrate my screen with Spyder, but I did not see much of a difference before or after.
 
Depends how far I am from the screen to be honest.

If I'm up close then I have it just above halfway, if I have the screen far back (i.e. playing guitar and reading music off the screen) then full brightness is fine.

The screen really goes bright though - even outside the screen is still easily readable.

Too bright sometimes :p

Looks like I'm the minority here... I usually use it at 1. Like... minimum before going black. Sometimes I turn it up a couple, but normally I like to conserve battery life and my eyes have no problem with the lower settings.
 
I use have my brightness set three notches below max and have never moved it since. Matted screen as well.
