Umm.. I was wondering about the real world battery life on the new SR MBP while having 2-3 tabs on firefox,2-3 office documents , adium running, BT off, Wireless on and the screen all the way to one above the lowest setting brightness?..

My guess was around 5+hours:D...or may be not?

The screen settings is THE one that changes it all. You can go from 2h30 to a 4h15 easily by adjusting your brigthness level. oh and btw, 5+ hours... i dont think so. I got around 4 hours max (normal usage: safari, mail, neooffice, itunes, adium, bt off, wireless on and brightness pretty low)...
5 hours seems a lot to me...

For me, it last nearly 3 hrs with the following programs on:

1) Mail
2) Safari (4-6 windows open)
3)Adium (2-3 user windows)
4) Address Book/iCal

I'm usually at full brightness

i get around 4 hours. yesterday i watched a full screen movie for an hour and forty minutes and when i was done it was still predicting about 2 more hours of a battery. it's been pretty accurate since i calibrated it.

3 hours...is there something wrong with my battery?
Probably not. Your battery settings must be different than ours. I got the better energy savings for boh battery and power. Did you calibrated your battery maybe?

Yeah, Apple states around 6 hours, but at the brightness settings I use it's more like 3 hours (less if I'm in Windows).

I get just over 3 hrs with the display on auto adjust, and normal performance.

The screen and the wireless have a huge effect on the battery life.

i normally get around 3-4 hours, with normal usage, at nearly full brightness.

any other tips to expand battery life? i have to do a 18hr flight this month, or should i just get 10 extra's batteries.

5 hours....

My MBP 2.4 got 4:45-5:05 when I first got it, but after the first battery calibration it settled down to 3:45-4:15 on average. Sigh.

I'm getting over 4 hours with Airport and Bluetooth on with a basic everyday load. MUCH less if I'm playing a game using the DVD - I get around two hours of use.
