According to iStat Pro my CPU is constantly 70˚C+ with my fans running atleast 6000RPM. I'm often not doing much, iChat, iTunes, Safari and Mail. This can't be normal, can it?

That seems kind of high to me. I've been using mine for 10-15 minutes here and my CPU is at 50c, fan as ~1800. I have Adium, firefox, and itunes running.
Keep in mind that the temp also depends on what type of surface you have it sitting on and also the ambient room temp.

Sounds a bit hot to me ... during normal operations (surfing the web, chatting, iTunes) mine stays around 45-50c and 1800rpm. Though when I do something more intensive it can quickly jump up to that level for a few moments. Especially when Spotlight is doing some indexing ...
try type this into two terminal windows:
yes > dev/null/
and run them for 8 hours or so with fans cranked up to the max. That should make the thermal paste settle in and also heat up your computer to see if something is actually wrong with it.

Yes - way too hot
I read this earlier in the day and cranked my SR MB (mod to 4GB RAM & Hitachi 7200rpm 200GB HD). The fan kicked in during a heavy file transfer to an external drive via FW, but it never got any where near 70. Highest (and the fan was going for a good 15 minutes) was 58 and the fan was only doing 4200. Once the transfer was over, everything cooled down considerably to the standard (from what I've been reading here) 40-43/1600-1800.
