hey there, i recently bought a new sr mbp
well.. for the first few days it was fine
but now it get HOT. and i mean hot, you cannot have it on your lap without feeling REALLY uncomfortable, the 'enclosure bottom' temp regularly reads 40C is this normal??:confused:

Have you installed loads of 'background' apps, things which sit in the Menu bar at the top right, or loads of dashboard widgets? Even extra System Preferences panes?

These will all make the computer have to work harder, and as a result, heat up.

It will get very hot if you use it running from the power supply. It'll run much cooler on the battery.

using it on your lap, or any soft surface, will make the laptop run slightly hotter as air cant get to the bottom of the laptop, thats what the little legs are for

anyway, mbp do run hot, they have a hell of a lot of power in a small case
the components can run up to 120C (250F) or so safely - although regular use at this temp will shorten the life of the mbp
a typical temperature is 45-50C (110-120F) so yours is fine :)

Mine idles at 50 after running for a couple of hours with fans spinning on 3000 RPM and it isn't uncomfortable on my thighs. Great in these sad winter months actually :)

My MBP 2.2 SR is cool as a cucumber. It's fans run, but it's not even mildly warm (Palmrest, bottom casing). Not sure why, but I won't complain. Most stressful thing I do on it though is import/export loads of filemaker data. :D

i think its because im running Parallels eh?

You're pretty normal as long as it's under 100c
