SR MBP Kernel Panic: Need help deciphering it!

Hi there, another new Mac user and unfortunately yet another user suffering from kernel panics on my 3 day old 15" SR MBP 2.4ghz with standard 160GB HDD.

Over the last three days I have had about 6 kernel panics.

I am not keen on having to replace the computer if I can help it as I have struck it lucky and received a computer with an LG screen that is devoid of any issues... important as I need a good screen for in field image analysis.

The first kernel panic occurred when restarting after completing the first battery calibration. The rest have occurred at what seems to be rather random intervals.

Strangely enough I have had no issues when connected wirelessly to the net while either connected to mains power or battery. Have even managed to run down the battery to 0% while connected wirelessly without any issues. I should also mention that I am using an Apple Extreme base station set on WPA/WPA2.

In an attempt to prevent the kernel panics from happening I have done the following;

1) Ran the extensive OS Hardware Test... no issues found.
2) Reset NRAM/PRAM
...still had kernel panics!
3) Reinstalled OS 10.4.09 leaving out the additional language packs and printer drivers.
4) Ran Disk Utility and carried out complete disk verification/repair
5) Updated the OS to 10.4.10 using the "Combi v1.1" updater
6) Installed the "Software Updates v1.0" for SR MBP
7) Ran Disk Utility again
8) Reseated RAM... wasn't loose but checked and reinstalled
9) Reset NRAM/PRAM again
10) Ran Disk Utility yet again
...still had kernel panics!!!

Have run the extensive OS Hardware Test again.... still no issues!

So... can ANYONE please help by deciphering this last panic log? To my uneducated eye all the previous panic logs look similar so I am hoping that if I can at least get some idea as to what the issue at hand is I might be able to get a better response out of Apple support... fingers crossed!

Looks like a crash in the NVIDIA drivers. Do your other panic logs contain similar entries after "Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies)?"
 
There is a bug in the airport drivers which is causing a kernal panic if you use wireless when on battery power. There some 16000+ viewed threads on the Apple support forums about this, everyone experincing the same problem.

Don't bother getting it replaced, people are reporting all MBP SR having the same problem so its a driver issue which Apple need to get sorted asap!

Mines doing it to. Works great though if its plugged into the mains, pull the mains though and it will KP in under a minute. Sucks.

I use the my MBP almost daily while*** on battery and using wireless.. and haven't experienced one KP, so I wouldn't go as far as saying all MBP SR are having that same issue. But in this guys case there is a good chance he may be experiencing that issue.

The OP indicated no trouble with wireless while on battery. And in this case, the backtrace points to a problem with the video drivers.

Same here. Not a single KP, and I use wireless at least 2-3 hours per day on battery. Perhaps the bug is only triggered by certain wireless routers.
 
I'm guessing the OP would have a lot more luck sending that info to Apple's official support (phone, email, genius, anything...) than he would here, but I hope he gets it fixed. :)
 
I thought it might be routers but have had the same problem on a Netgear, Linksys and Dlink now. Apple were mightly helpful in telling me to purchase a Airport to solve the problem! Yeah right!

Don't know if its a certain revision then of MBP but a lot of people of the Apple forums are having the issue. Also I emailed Macworld about the problem and got a response saying they are aware of a large number of users reporting the problem so are in the process of contacting Apple about the problem.
 
Some people have had Kernel Panics due to WPA2 encryption. I'm not sure why, but when they disabled security or changed to WPA1 or WEP, the problem went away. You could try that out. But as others have said, if it is a problem with the Nvidia card, you may need to send it in for repair.
 
Its WEP at home and WPA at work, crashed on both yet my MacBook works fine on them all. Even tried earlier turning security of on my home one so it was wide open and it still crashed.

Oh well, when I go away next week I'll be taking my MacBook and leaving this at home.

I appreciate people getting back to me however I should point out again that I have had no kernel panics while connecting to the net wirelessly via the SR MBP's Airport card when using either mains power or battery power.

I think you are right about it being Nvidia related and I hope it is just a driver issue... being new to Macs I don't have any knowledge about kernel pancs and not sure how to read them but I initially thought it might be related to the video card ram... anyway to run a specific test of that ram?

Actually, what's important is the list following that line. In your case, com.apple.NVDAResman is at the top of the backtrace. It is followed by other modules that are clearly part of the graphics subsystem. That is why I suggested it might be a problem with the NVIDIA drivers. It could also be a hardware problem in your machine that's causing the drivers to crash. It's hard to tell for sure.
 
UPDATE

Well after speaking with Apple Tech Support/Engineers and explaining the checks I had done I was invited to Apple's head office here in Sydney to drop off my current SR MBP and they will replace it with a new "LG" screen computer which I can check before I take home. Very important to me as I will be using this computer for image analysis!

Was also really impressed by the people I dealt with over the phone. They were all great to deal with and have already sent supporting emails. Look forward to thanking them in person when I go in to check my replacement computer.
