just bought mbp 2 months ago and the nvidia sr mbp shows up a month later/...sad

just wanted to confirm does the nvidia chip make a considerable difference compared to x1600...as i see very little bumps in my flight sim x on vista..

is there anyway to install the nvidia 8600 or better cards on my mbp..
cheers

No you can't install a new video card on your MBP, it is almost physically impossible to do (you'd have a hard time putting it all back together) and it would void the warranty.

There is a reasonable boost yes - slightly more FPS and slightly smoother, but nothing to get over excited about. Part of the reason is the new chipset, not just the GPU.

There is always something better out there, so be happy. In about 5-6 months I'm sure Apple will update the MBP range again in time for Christmas.

thx a lot
really appreciate so there is no chace for even any external gpu through usb maybe if something like that exists for playing new demanding games..
on vista

If you are struggling to deal with new games, then it is an issue.

If your current games are working fine and you are just after just a few more FPS and to increase the viewing distance then I'd say stop moaning :D

Well, Asus is working on an external GPU solution, Via the Expresscard/34 slot, so maybe in 6months to a year we will be seeing the first external graphics.

I believe there are others working on external solutions, but I've only seen a demo model from Asus.

I know this is crazy, and prob not practical either... and expensive. but if you realllly wanted to upgrade the vid card.. would it be possible to buy a new logic board that has the 256 chip? replace the logic board w/ the 128....

Unless you bought the logic board off eBay by salvaging parts of someone else's MBP.

I'd say it is impossible to do what you want to do. Replacing the logic board involves stripping the laptop of everything. You'd never be able to get the computer back together.

Unless you'd be happy with a laptop that doesn't have a case :p

Laptops are not designed to be upgraded. Only upgrades they allow you to do are hard drive and RAM. Replacing CPU's, GPU's, Logic Board's etc can't be done without basically rebuilding your lappy from scratch.

yea. i dont care to I was just listing a crazy way. haha. I think the external graphic card that ASUS si working on, and i think MSI is also.. will be better than any internal laptop vid card. great idea i think. its just like plugging in an external monitor but with a much better video card. got a laptop and now gaming or highend workstation with that device.

Ahh gotcha lol.

Not sure about the performance of express card GPU's compared to internal ones.

Internal one's I would have thought would be better since they are PCI express.
