SR MBP RAM Configuration

So I've been reading about the advantages and disadvantages of splitting dual-channel RAM in order to upgrade, but I'm still not clear on something;

The 2GB of RAM that came stock in my Santa Rosa MBP, is it two 1gb sticks, in dual channel mode? And if so, do I only have a single expansion slot? I had thought/hoped that I could add 2gb either as two 1gb dimms or else as a single 2gb dimm, without breaking the dual-channel functionality. Is this incorrect?

Like I said, I HAVE been reading through various posts on this subject, I just can't figure out whether the breaking-dual-channel applies to SRs or not...

Your new MBP has two slots. Currently filled with 1GB each. So to upgrade, you can either replace one or both with 2GB, giving you 3GB or 4GB total RAM depending on which way you go.

My understanding is that you get better RAM performance if you run both the same size because they will run in dual-channel mode.

Is it actually confirmed that future 4GB chips would _not_ work in a MacBook Pro, or is it just that nobody has seen them working because nobody found any 4GB chips yet?

Yes I read that, but it didn't answer as to how many empty slots there were. I thought maybe the 2gb was internal, or at least 1gb of it was so that I would be able to add without removing existing ram. No dice!
