SSD at a later date?

Hi guys,

I've been reading quite a few threads on here now and picked up some good points....many thanks.

I'm on the road to getting a new iMac and have my spec pretty much sorted. However I do have a question regarding the SSD's. I presume on purchase of the new 27 inch you could at a later date get a SSD installed if you wish? I would prefer a SSD along with a 1TB sata but don't think that's a possibility at this stage! Can anyone confirm this?

OWC offers SSD upgrade for 449$, it includes 120GB SSD which is a lot faster than what Apple uses. For 169$ you can get an eSATA port if you wish to use other SSD

Thinking along the same lines as djmcd here. But also wondering what the consequences to Applecare would be. Would the Apple SSD need to be purchased and installed later to preserve the coverage?

If you don't order your iMac with a SSD it won't be easy to add it later because necessarily needed components will be missing.

As arcade99 said - it wouldn't have the necessary components and if you were to install it yourself, you would be voiding your AppleCare Warranty.

I'm not too sure if you can go to an Authorised Reseller/Service Provider and get them to install one - but it's worth finding out. If they do offer it - don't be surprised if it's more expensive than adding it on the Store.

Warranty would only be affected if you damaged something in the process or removed a "warranty void if removed" sticker (such as on the CPU).

personally, i would get the SSD straight up as its a lot harder further down the track to get the SSD in there yourself - unless you are willing to pay others.
