Argh... so i can't find a Crucial M4 512gb anywhere in store locally. it would HAVE to be an online order...

I've started to dig through my applications, most arent even a gig... reason is 2.66gb, native instrument things are less than a gig, logic apparently just a few gb (without audio files i suppose...), pro tools 6gb...
something i did want to do is adobe creative cloud but i am not sure how big those programs are.

What do you guys think, can i get away with a 256 boot/app drive? or should i online order the 512 and wait a week lol.

Yes, a 256 is probably fine.

I've got 256s in three machines and no space issues so far (with CS, Xcode, Logic, FCPX, Office, etc.). The worst off is my MBP, with 64gb free. 90gb of the used space is VMs though.
;)

Just get info on your boot drive (or where your apps are installed), estimate the growth you expect, and go from there.

If the 512s had been cheaper at the time, I'd have gone that route.

I have the 256GB M4 as my boot drive, with installs of Adobe CS5, 5.5, FCPX, Office for Mac, Lightroom 4 and all sorts of smaller apps.

I'm using just over 98GB, with 157GB still free.

I could fit all my music on it, but I'd rather have a good chunk of space on my boot disk, so all my music and video files reside on a 4TB Hitachi HDD in slot 4.

Running Dual Intel 80GB in Raid 0 (160GB)

Have all the big audio/video/graphics apps with all assets installed and it takes up 120GB. All that plus my user directory. 256 should be more than enough. My next SSD for the 2013 MacPro will be in that size range.
