I used an OWC supplied SSD and drive adapter. However recently they introduced a replacement drive sled that enabled the SSD drive to fit into the machine. See

Thanks cwog looks a good solution (would it work with all SSD or just OWC?) I was thinking of just an adaptor that lines up with the backplane and connectors. Basically one designed for MacPro not that good with DIY stuff ;)

Sled options for your MP 2008

The OWC drive led will not work for the 2008 model as already mentioned.

Here is a version for the 2008:

I have used Icy Dock with success, but the Icy Dock Aluminum adapters are better than the plastic. I did have a plastic that simply would not work and had to be returned. The aluminum ones I have work perfectly.

Another vote for the Icy Dock. I have two of the plastic ones and they are great.

I stuck both of mine in the secondary optical bay and used a 4-pin to twin-SATA power cable to power them. I plugged them into the two ODD SATA ports and affixed them to the bottom of the carrier with metal tape.

That whole area of my Pro is modified a bit though as I previously had two rotational disks there which could only fit with the center stud that catches the carrier removed.

I don't have any photos of the SSD upgrade but here's the previous setup with two rotational disks to give an idea how it works...

I made a power adaptor for the previous setup but when I replaced the SATA disk with two SSDs I used a 4-pin to twin-SATA cable so I could get rid of this:

Icy Dock is the best solution because it works with all Mac Pros. I had it with 2008 (Mushkin Chronos 240GB) and now with 2010 (Corsair Force GT 180GB).

It converts 2.5 HDDs/SSDs to 3.5 dimensions, so it is universal.

I also use the Icey Dock, 2.5-3.5 sled.
Used in my Mac Pro 1.1 now it's in my 3.1, no problems
