I connected an SSD flash drive to my Mac. I ejected in Finder and Disk Utility. When I disconnected the drive I got a popup failed to eject" because it is currently in use. It wouldn't disconnect otherwise. Is this harmful for the memory?

Try this:
LOG OUT of your account.
Then, log back in.
NOW try to eject the drive.

If that doesn't work...
Reboot the Mac.
When you get to the finder, try to eject the drive again.
