I have a hard-wired whole home A/V system and use a 2009 Mac Mini to stream my music (mostly ALAC) through it via a regular A/V receiver. Currently my music is on an external FW400 drive but the hard drive is getting up in age so I want to clone it to fresh media before something bad happens.
Since SSDs have come down in price I was thinking of using one of those instead of a hard drive. My thought - less heat production in a somewhat confined space. My current ext drive can get piping hot.
So is this a decent idea or is there something about SSDs that would make this a potential disaster?
