I am going to buy 2 samsung EVO 1TB drives to upgrade my Harpertown 3.1 Mac Pro. Anything I need to know in advance? Do I need an adapter for the internal bays and also do I need some type of cable adapter to hook the ssd up to the 3.1 Mac Pro? I plan on just cloning my current drive to the new ssd boot drive which is still running Snow Leopard. Any issues with that?

Thanks for your help.

I had a similar question that was helped on this thread

I have yet to do the upgrade.

The OWC site says that particular 'sled' won't work with 2008 Mac Pro's which is what year my 3.1 is. Quote from the web page:

"Note: Not for use with Mac Pro models released in 2006, 2007, or 2008"

When I added a SSD to my Mac Pro, I bought one of these Newer Technology AdaptaDrives:

Place the SSD in that thing, then mount on the sleds you have.

Edit: Of course the Adaptadrive was referenced in that link above.

If you are going to put it in a drive sled instead of an SATA III PCIe caddy, you will need one of these

You would get better performance with a PCIe card. The Apricorn Velocity Solo x2 is working well for a lot of users here.

Absolute agreed! Big fan of the Velocity Solo X2 myself (and many others)

An alternative to those OWC sleds, you can buy an icydock. I have 2 of them and they work great.

You do not need a sata cable or anything. It's a direct connection, just like with your 3.5" hard drives.

Great converters, have two of them with EVO SSD. Highly recommended!
