Hey, just recently managed to get an ifixit kit so I can finally get around to installing an SSD into my base mini. The thing is I'm pretty tech aware but haven't ever done anything like this so want to make sure i don't bork the mini in the process.
Firstly, pulling the mini apart etc. do I need any kind of anti static mat, extra precaution need to be taken when handling the internal components?
Next, where would be the best place to place the SSD, in the bottom bay (relative to the mini upside down) or the top bay. I ask this because I'm wondering about heat etc and whether the heat of the original HDD will annoy it at all. ( This is mainly because since using handbrake i've become hypersensative to the fact the mini turns into a little frying pan)
Then there's the matter of the OS itself, should I just drop the SSD in with the other one, fire up the mini and boot it (cmd+r?) to the SSD and internet recover from there, or should i have just the SSD installed until it's all good to go.
And then from that how would i go about pointing all the folders away from the SSD to the other disk, since I'm getting a 64GB SSD so only want the OS, applications etc running off of it and then all content on the original disk.
Finally I have to ask the age old question on here it seems of which SSD would you recommend, Crucial M4 or Samsung 830. I ask because I'm not overly clued up on the deal with having to do firmware updates for them.
Anyway, I hope that's not a stupid amount of questions, I just want to make sure that in doing this I do it right, so thanks for any help guys!
