Hello:

I have a mac mini, w/ 1 TB HD. I've ordered a Lacie ext SSD, 250 gigs. I want to boot from this SSD, but do not want to use it for data storage. Is there a way to migrate ONLY the system files/OS to this new drive ?? I've read some tutorials on how to copy everything, but thats not my goal...

Thanks

Your best option is to just do a fresh OS X install on it.

Hi bigcletus123, I think yjchua95 explained the best way to do it, but I do not understand why you would boot from an external ssd. Lacie sells the 250GB external ssds for $180 and in rugged form for $300. But you can get an internal from Crucial for about $110. Might cost another $100 to have an authorized dealer install it. There is room in the minis for two internal storage devices.
