OS Neutral SSD or Fusion drive?

I'm thinking about getting a new mac (probably an iMac), but if I do, which would be better for game loading/performance? SSD or a Fusion Drive?

Well, pure SSD would probably be better, but wondering if there's that big a difference, and the Fusion drive's extra space would be nice, but with USB 3, moving stuff between an internal and external hard drive isn't as slow as it used to be.

I know, macs aren't that great for gaming in terms of money, but iMacs sure do look nice and never quite sure if it was the graphics card, the hard drive or even the processor that was most important.

I currently have a 2010 iMac and its somewhat slow by now (compared to my 2012 Macbook Air), so anything current would probably be a big improvement, but still thinking about the timing (this summer or just wait until fall). For general use, a Fusion drive would probably be fine, but I've heard a Bootcamp would have to be on the regular HDD part of the Fusion drive, and I could probably get by with a 256 GB SSD and a few external hard drives.

Graphics card and to a lesser extent processor are what determine how high you can turn the graphics up and what games you can play. Hard drive/ssd is more just for storage. An SSD would improve load times a little bit depending on the game, but I think you'd be better off with the fusion drive for more storage.

I definitely recommend you to buy Fusion drive. I plan to buy an i-mac, too and I will buy Fusion drive one. Even though solid state drives have better reading and writing values, gaming shortens their lifetimes incredibly fast. No one in technology markets would recommend ssds for game installation. That's why gaming desktop PCs and notebooks have 128gb ssd + 1tb sata hard drives. People use ssds for Windows OS, internet securities, office programs, etc and install the games for their sata hard drives. Hard drive lifetime for iMacs is really important issue, as it costs a lot changing the hardware. In addition, fusion drives are faster then normal sata hard drives. Please keep in your mind all these info before you complete your order.

The wear problem on SSD's is no longer much of an issue, they've done a great job reducing the problem down to almost nonexistent. In fact it's actually less of an issue than a failure on a regular hard drive now.

That being said, go fusion. I have a rolled my own fusion drive and it's awesome. There are several online sites that tell you how to do it; but basically it gives you the performance of a SSD and the space of a HD.
